When my son did not make the "grade" this past year, he said, "I let you down, but I did the best I could. I did learn something, though, in all the subjects. Can I share what learned, so you wont be upset with me?" "I am not at all disappointed with you or your grades. As long as you did your best and walked away from this year learning something new, then that is all that matters." I am proud of my 3.0 son. I tell my students the same thing too. The issue from an educational standpoint is that teacher's are finding that when children are arriving in kindergarten they don't have the fine motor skills that they need. Crayons are the BEST writing utensil to develop that strength. Don't throw the pastels though..they have their own purpose! The pastels are wonderful for instant results.
